Shiiiite - the papers went off to Oman today for the dogs' first import licence. Seeing lawyer tomorrow to get wills drawn up. How grown up is that? Supposed to be casting off in 14 days. In shock!

I remember having 10 days between finishing work and flying out to the boat to commence cruising long term. I was in a permanent state of fatigue, but the excitement just kept bubbling to the surface. I must have looked a little looney at the airport with a permanent grin plastered on my face when it came time to go.

Regarding final packing just follow my motto "If in doubt, throw it out". This worked well. There is almost nothing I really wish I had brought with me.

Good luck with your final preparations!

PS Did you say "dogs' "? Have you decided to take more than one?

Nothing to add to this, just making her feel that more folks care.

Hi SS, good luck with your soon to be departure, presumably your first stop will be down-under in Perth

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Yes! OK, so of the pack of four: one went to Washington (Maya the three legged Golden X we fostered for rehab) and is awaiting permanent adoption. www.warl.org

One is going to my husband's factory, since the guys there all love her and won't let me put her down! I had been planning on euthanising her, since I reckon 10 years is long enough for a St Bernard X (SB's usually only live 6-8 years, it's the miX that seems to have elongated her life) who would have been dead in the desert within 2yrs had we refused her entry to our garden when she pitched up. She'll get fat, her hips will get worse, her eyes will get cloudier and no doubt the fatty lumps will get bigger, but at the end of the day she'll be with guys she knows and will be happy with lots of fuss; and HWMO will be visiting regularly and will know when the deed becomes necessary

That leaves two young dogs (about 18mos): a black Retriever X and a black Whippet X. Rehoming dogs in Kuwait is hard. Rehoming black dogs who distrust Arab men and children is impossible. If they go to the shelter I don't think make it through to the adoption stage

They are used to sailing, and have no stress issues when on the boat, so we'll take them with. Hubby will be 'commuter cruising' while I live onboard FT, and I reckon they're the best protection I could have.

With the dogs? Hmmmm.... Unlikely. You'll have to come visit in Bali, like the rest of the Horn family in Perth. PS do you dive? If so, do you know Sarah and Callum who run the best dive centre there?

OK, so I don't make mistakes often, but when I do they're hilarious. One might even think I could be clever enough to compose such saucy Freudian slips deliberately. I wish.

Hmm.... yes I concur, the puppies would make it difficult.
Very good reason to visit Bali though
Don't dive - gotta boat to keep me out of the water

Again, fair winds and a dry bilge

Re: Saucy's Countdown...

Thanks for all your good wishes.

We have to be out of our house by 30th April, and are planning on having an open boat that day - so if you wanna just hop on a plane and join us on the dock, we'll crash you a Fattaya!!!

The entire house now is empty, except of boat stuff in two rooms. It's really weird - it echoes!
