I have just written a post on our blog called "A Tale of a Seasick Cat" that included photos. However, I do not know how to send the link to the specific post.

We have two cats aboard that are new to sailing, I am happy to report they are settling in nicely nearly a month into our adventure.

After I went to bed last night, it occured to me how to get the link -- duh!

A Tale of a Seasick Cat! | The Adventures of Smart Move

That should be the link, it was posted on 01/14/2013. The post is about, as the title suggests, the experiences of our two cats Lilly and Chloe as they have been introduced to the cruising lifestyle. Lilly our 16 year old cat got really seasick her first time out and was feeling so bad the second time out and we were so concerned that we called our vet in Colorado. Chloe (5) really hates change, so we were expecting her to have a harder time of it. Lilly is really laid back and just goes with the flow. We really didn't expect either to get seasick, our basis for this is that they never had a hard time on long car trips.

I will be posting more about our cats as they adjust and have new experiences. I am working on one now about their first dinghy ride (to meet the BVI government vet on entry) and their first encounter with chickens and pelicans. I wish I had a camera ready when the pelican dove into the water not six feet away from us to capture the astonishment!

I ain't got any cats of my own onboard but I'll nevertheless share a prior posting of mine insofar cats are concerned.

Sorry, but I don't know of a link to a blog, but thought you may be interested in this kitty-litter set up which works particularly well on boats with a sugar-scoop.

Buy two plastic flower pot holders. Drill lots of holes in the one. Place lots of marbles in the one with the holes then place it in the other. When the cooking fat has done his deed, you simply sit on your sugar-scoop and rinse it off.

One of the advantages is that the kitty doesn't kick litter all over the place.

Poor Lilly. So glad you posted the "after" picture - lookin' gorgeous.

You been monkeyfi'ed, girlfriend. When you get the new post up, let us know and we'll add it as well. (I hope I never have to get our cats in a dinghy. Their dismay would be EXTREME.)

Oh man, my cats would NEVER go for this. But, really, I shouldn't say that since they continually surprise me. We have three cats on a catamaran and litter boxes in each forward stateroom. Kitty litter here in Colombia is SO expensive that I tried shredded newspaper in one of our boxes - two of the three now use the newspaper! Yeah! Cut the kitty litter use in half, and now we have one hull that is kitty-litter-free.

I would like to figure out a way to use your pictures and explanation on The Monkey's Fist, even if you don't have a blog - would that be okay? Our goal is to collect resources that might otherwise be hard to find. So if someone wants to know more about cats on board, they can be instantly connected with 15 (and counting) cruisers who actually HAVE cats aboard, just by finding The Monkey's Fist. It's new, so we're going to have to figure out how to make those good bits of advice available, even if they're not in a blog post. For a couple of our other topics, we've actually linked to a cruisers forum thread (on laundry) and a sailnet thread (on pink/blue divisions of labor).

We dont live aboard yet, but Our kitten, Nibbler (11 months now ) accompanied us on our maiden voyage home when he was only 2 or 3 months old, if a motor was on he was OFF snoozing, when awake he loved it and by the end of the trip was running around on the top and around the decks. Never seen an animal so relaxed even when rough out.
