Pain Killers

Here is something for those who might need a little escape from the bureaucrats today. I imbibed my first painkiller last year in the beautiful port town of Anapolis.

two ounces of Dark Rum (plus or minus)
one ounce of cream of coconut
four ounces of pineapple juice
one ounce orange juice

Shake or stir then pour over ice in a tall glass. Add a pinch of nutmeg to the top.

How are you coping today?

Chef Mike

Re: Pain Killers

An alternative, for those, like me, who really shouldn't have the sugar load in a pain killer, is a dark'n'stormy made with Gosling's sugar free ginger beer.

one part rum to n parts ginger beer (n doesn't have to be greater than 1).

Re: Pain Killers

A favorite in the Philippines where all the ingredients are cheap and readily available. LOL Costs about 50 cents to make

Sounds much much better than vitamin I.

Vive La Pain Killers!
Had my first one when I was 19 in the BVI. Never looked back since...

For those who are underage but wish to join in the drinking, like little kids, we make Placebos in a second container (everything less the rum). They love it just as much!

Re: Pain Killers

And the really good news for USA based Dark 'n' Stormy drinkers is that Barritt's DIET Ginger Beer is now available in the States. For years I've made every guest in Bermuda carry back a case. I finished my last can yesterday from last summer's stash. Carried it onto the boat this winter.

Re: Pain Killers

I had a tall, ice cold Kirin beer for lunch.
It's 74 deg F outside and it went down painlessly.

I get queezy at even reading the name Pain Killer after an eventful night at Willie T's last year but that recipe is spot on. I usually pinch a bit of nutmeg as a last step, but that is about perfect right there.

Edit: Missed the nutmeg mention, hats off!
