Weather Information on the internet

Does anyone know what is the best site for weather in the Bahamas? We are in Exuma. We use Passage weather and Windfinder but they don't give details about lows in the area or other approaching weather details. We know of Chris Parker but though maybe we could just find a good website. I wasn't able to get Bahamas on NOAA.

Thanks,
Silent Faith

Dunno about your way... but the last 2 weeks in the Med between Nice and Tunisia Passage weather got it right 1 day out of 10...

Chris Parker is the man for the Bahamas. You can listen to him on SSB and he has a web site. You can also subscribe to various levels of support.

NOAA does not produce any forecast products specific to the Bahamas, but their RadioFax (WeatherFax) charts do include the area.

Try aviation weather, by NOAA/FAA on this website for George Town - Exuma: http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/MYEG.html
It might take you a while to "convert" aviation weather for pilots to a "boating forecast". Some information is useful for both. Have fun! Mauritz

re: Weather Information on the internet

Silent Faith, here are the sites we use besides passageweather and windfinder...
Barometer Bob - Abacos, Bahamas
SailFlow - Abaco-Elbow Cay - Wind Conditions & Forecast
Southern Florida Doppler Weather Radar Map - AccuWeather.com
Elbow Cay, Bahamas Surf Forecast and Surf Report
Northern Bahama Surf Report (STORMSURF)
Bahamas Marine Weather Forecast | BUOYWEATHER.COM
Radiofax Charts - New Orleans
zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization
I find the information we gather from the various sites gives us a better forecast than the professionals. Chuck

re: Weather Information on the internet

The problem with Internet Weather sites like Passage Weather and Bouy Weather is that there is no human interaction. They computer models predict weather fairly accurately out 48 hours, but after that, especially in the Caribbean they are not very accurate.

I would strongly suggest you buy a subscription from Chris Parker Weather. You can access him through the SSB Radio, which is also simulcast via Web Pod. You can ask him direct questions via the Web Pod or SSB. You can also get text weather from either the web site or email him. Finally, as a subscriber you can call him on the phone. In addition, you can also receive daily afternon text weather reports via email for an extra fee.

I have found Chris Parker to be the most accurate weather predictor in the Caribbean.

Marine forecast for the Eastern Caribbean could be obtained twice an hour on radio station WOSO 1030 AM dial - San Juan PR; ABC and CBS news networks. I'm not sure if their website has boating weather forecast. Mauritz

re: Weather Information on the internet

Thanks, we will check out the website. Is the weather fax on internet or just SSB (which we don't have)?

Thanks for the info. We got on this page before but it says June 14, 2012. We can't get it to show current weather.

We have used several of the sites you mention but are not familiar with zyGrib. Do you have to subscribe to it?

No subscription to zygrib needed. You just need to download the small viewer software. The grib is based on GFS models. Chuck
