You may want to be careful tipping that Rum drink. That's how I ended up owning a Harley and boat!

I have thought also of being able to take a bike, and I also thought of the protective casing on deck. I would build it in aluminum with rubber seals. Also I would take the time to spray a dab of LPS-3 on each and every nut & bolt to pretect them from corrosion.

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

there is a company that makes cases for mountain bikes there waterproof and tough as nails. they are for airplanes.and they make it for each bike. google bike cases and try and find it. im sure if you asked them and brought your bike over to them ( broken down) they would make a case for the frame and rear arm with no tires in case and possibly front fork laying under frame and arm.i cant find it but a huge downhill mountain bike is not much smaller in length then a drz400.

is it a drz400SM? just wondering because my wr250x breaks down pretty small i have not ever put it on a boat but with the front fork and rear arm off its not to big. and the tires.

i want to see a picture of the busa on a boat. that is pretty impressive.

John

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

I am planning on traveling with a 2004 Honda Helix motorscooter. It weights 350# and easily carries two adults with 65mpg at speeds up to 70mph. I also have a #1500 crane that will place it on and off my swmdeck. The Helixs' are bulletproof; been manufactured since 1986 and changed little since then; one cylinder, one carb. about as simple as one can get. Sold worldwide except Europe; Russia; China... I haven't decided to take it with me if I go outside the USA. WD-40 protects anything metal..

I have thought about this too but since I don't even have the boat yet, it is a problem that can wait... but I was just going to have a little scooter (moped), wash it off with fresh water from time to time and give the mechanics a little oil spray... replace it when needed... I had a jet ski for about 7 yrs in Florida, gave it this treatment and never had any trouble...

Cheers

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

thats what i was thinking as well. a busa is one of the biggest sportbikes as weight concerns but its also farily long and pretty expensive. i would never think of carying one on a boat.

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

Ooh, a challenge! I looked up rotomolded shipping containers. My quick search yielded the biggest ones with dimensions:
52" x 48" x 18.81" for $1170. ("Zero" brand waterproof lockable)
50" X 30" X 24" for $700. (SKB brand)

I wonder either of those would be big enough, maybe if you took off the front wheel? You also need a popup ramp on one of your hulls so you can Evil Knievil yourself onto the dock.

Well.... some German friends cruised with two Harleys on board...
one was an FLH and hers was a solo custom job... very nice...
He and I toured Majorca on them in '96.... I was on her 'Custom Harley'....
Mind... I should add they owned a 17m+ Jongert with hydrualic opening transom Locker/Garage that also stored the dinghy etc... a seriously civilised cruiser....

check this out https://www.google.ca/search?q=motor...2ZDL_3ovCeIhM:
I saw a picture somewhere, (sorry can't find it) with a motorcycle on a catamaran. It was stored with a hoist. I am looking at the same thing so I can have a vehicle if I want to go far from the dock, when I get a boat.

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

Well since this thread has been brought back to life, i'll post...

As much as i would like to take my DR650SE with me in a sailboat, it an't gonna happen. Not and fit in a 33 to 37 footer.

What came to mind reading this thread was this bike i found sometime back that seemed interesting. This was before i was waiting to take up sailing.

The end of video shows how small it packs.
