Newbie in Melbourne

I'm new to Cruisers Forum but have been reading some of the threads.
My husband and I have just bought a 39' Hallberg Rassy and it's on it's way from Noumea to Brisbane; then down to Melbourne.
Our plan is to sell up and go cruising by the end of 2009... Look forward to chatting with like-minded souls...

Hello Sollars, Very interested in your purchase as we too are looking to purchase a Hallberg Rassy ,but from the States { they are all either too old or too expensive in Australa} .Did you find yours in Noumea? what year is it? are you bringing it over yourselves? would love to know any info you have that could help us with our purchase . Best of luck Tom.

Hi Tom. Our HR39 is 1997 and we've been looking for a Hallberg Rassy for a while now. We initially looked at the 42' but thought the 39' would be just as good, but cheaper. We found the boat via the web and my husband actually leaves Noumea tomorrow. I agree, the prices in Australia are higher than overseas, but maybe ask me in a few weeks if the costs were worth it. So far it appears so. Good luck HR hunting!

How much do you have to pay? Size? Year?

Hi Tom
Yes, we found the boat in Noumea after searching for a while now - it's a 1996 HR39. We brought it over with the help of the previous owners. So far we haven't had any problems with importing, customs, etc. I think the best thing is to surf the internet and keep your eye on HRs in the area. I agree, the prices in Aus are a little higher than overseas, but you've got to weigh up the importation/tax costs and whether you'd be prepared to sail it back from wherever yourself to keep costs down. Happy hunting!
