New Cruiser

Howdy all ! Name's Rusty and Im new to your community. Im sailing from Gulfport, MS down to the Rio Dulce, Guatemala in June. This will be my first off shore passage. Im curious if there are any cruisers on here that might be posting up on Lago Izabal for the hurricane season. Im bringing my guitar and plenty of rum. I hope to meet some interesting folks on the trip. Hit me up if you're there. Ya'll look marvelousCapn Russ

Re: New Cruiser

You'll love the Rio!

It gets HOT in the summer, and anchoring out is not advisable. Luckily the marinas are very reasonable. You might want to consider taking a "Cruise N Carry" AC unit, or window AC that fits into a dropboard. If not, at least have a good awning! We made this one right after returning from Guatemala.

BTW, BE SURE to go on a bus tour of the inland sites, like Lake Atitlan, Tikal, Antigua... It is pretty cheep, and REALLY beautiful!
