Hi!

Hello all. I've been lurking here for quite a while, dreaming big about our plans for the future. I love all the stories and advice I've gotten so far, and thought it was about time to take the plunge and de-lurk.

A little about me--I'm from South Carolina, and I grew up lake racing on my dad's Pearson Flyer. I'd say that more than 3/4 of the vacations I took as a child involved tramping up and down the docks at marinas, gazing lustfully at cruisers's boats.

Somehow I fell in with a landlubber and married him. (I know it's not usually the wife that's into sailing while the husband digs in his heels. I never said I was normal!) I've been dragging him kicking and screaming to the water since we were 14. He used to get terrible sea-sickness. For his parent's anniversary a few years ago we all went on a family cruise on one of the big ships. It was 8 nights, with a Category 5 hurricane in the area, so we had some bigger swells. He was sick before we even left the dock. Then, somehow on the 5th night, it was like a switch flicked off in his inner ear and he was 100% fine. His travel sickness has been greatly reduced since then, and it'll only take an hour or two on the water before it goes away completely now. After he was "healed", he's taken an ASA class on his own (I'm a terrible teacher), and now talks about building his own cat from scratch.

We'd like to get into day sailing from Charleston a bit, maybe take a trouble trips to Bimini or the Keys soon. We own our own business and have a 5 year old daughter, so our time is limited, but it's something we think about often.

Anyway, that's me. Glad to be here, and I hope to get to read more of your adventures and live vicariously through you--at least for a bit, until I can post some of my own.

Re: Hi!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to hear your husband's seasickness has subsided. I hope for the best for you. You might mention that at today's boat market its much cheaper to buy than build.
kind regards,
