Hello from Las Vegas!

Hello all. My name is Michael. I have just become interested in learning about sailing. It seems like it is really great and something to be pationate about. I was thinking about taking a class in southern California and maybe buying a low cost boat to learn on here at Lake Mead.

I hope to be able to ask questions and learn about the different boat types and what would be realistic for me.

One day I hope to be able to sail up the Pacific coast from California to Washington and back.

Hi Michael,

Check out Marina Sailing in Marina del Rey. MDR is a quick shuttle ride from the airport and they offer lessons as well as chartering so you can get to know different kinds of boats. My sister lives in Henderson and I thought she told me that Lake Las Vegas is drying up. Hurry while Lake Mead still has water in it.

Mike

Yes. It is real sad out here at Lake Mead. I think the marina actually had to be moved. When I first moved here there were some islands near the shore. They arent islands anymore. I will be looking for a school at Marina del Rey because I have a friend who lives there (on land) so it will be the easiest for me to get to ..

Aloha Michael,
Welcome aboard! Good to have you posting here. If you have questions about boating/sailing/cruising and living aboard this is the best place to be.
I recommend the book "Start Sailing Right!"
Kind regards,

Hi Michael,

We lived a short time in Boulder City. There were 2 good sailing clubs on Lake Mead (one more cruising and one racing). They were very friendly and you may be able to get some fun experience.

hello

Hi I also live in Vegas and keep my 2008 Catalina 350 in San diego with harbor sailboats. They are a great asa sailing school. I would look to them for classes. Check out :

As far as Lake Mead - it s windy often much more than you would think. However i dont really enjoy Sailing there. Too much of a ocean boy . But that is another story altogether
