Hello from A-stan!

Hi everyone, just wanted to quickly introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I'm currently doing security work in Afghanistan. I always wanted to get into sailing but haven't had the time. I'm looking forward to learning how to sail and the liveaboard lifestyle. I have a lot of questions so I'll definitely be looking to these forums for assistance.

All the best,
Ryan

Aloha Ryan,
Welcome aboard! Thanks for providing security to an unsecure area. Once you find some water look for a basic sailing class and go out with other folks on their boats.
regards,

Thanks for the reply John. I am planning on taking a full sailing course to include large cat sailing in May after my next deployment. This course is being given my Fairwinds Sailing and is located in BVI, as well as Chesapeake, MD. It looks reputable but I welcome advice on the different courses that are available.
I see you are in Hawaii. I was stationed at K-Bay in Oahu for approx 3 years. How's the sailing out there? I get out there every year to check on a rental I have in Kailua on Oahu. I noticed that the caribbean is more sailing oriented. Love Hawaii though. Aloha!
