Hello

Reached 40, and in the true tradition of male mid-life crisis, I've had enough of Gordon Brown's vision for a socialist utopia (in particular, I'm fed up with paying for it), so its time to bog off and go sailing.

Been keeping a Jeanneau 49 SO in Barcelona for 3 years. Its been washing its face under the surprisisingly competent management of Roland Perry at Barcelona Boats, since I bought in in 2003.

Hoping to sail off to Thailand this Summer. Currently building a house there and hope to keep the boat nearby in Jomtien.

Still a bit of a novice sailor, but I'm hoping with a fair wind and sound advice from one or two other punters on this site to learn without making too many mistakes.

Hello everyone!

Hello Hello

Er yeah gidday from another newbie.
Just bought my 1st keeler, a Lidgard 38 called Minaret.
It’s done a hell of a lot more miles than I plan on doing, maybe.
Just cruising around NZ would probably keep me amused for some time.
Have been in boats for most of my life, centreboard racing as a young fella and a couple of decades in outboard powered coastal fishing boats.
Loitering at Gulf Harbour till the end of the month sussing out the old beast, provisioning and fitting a windvane. Bit knarly out at sea at the moment so happy to stay tied up for now.

^thanks Calif

It's in hand!!! Boat's being hauled out this week for fresh anti-foul. Having seacocks serviced and checked (I hadn't realised just how many holes they put in these boats ), new plotter screen, new gen exhaust, some extra soundproofing on gen etc....

Gonna have to sail her there now - won't be able to afford the air fare by the time I'm through paying the bills here!

Are you in Singpaore? Is there good marina there? Worth a visit?

regards

Z

Zavier - Several good marinas in Singapore. Nice place for a stop over and a civilization break but nothing "special" about the waters around here.

Langkawi and Thailand are great cruising spots.

Also a good spot near here up river in Malaysia. People like that place to leave boats because its fairly brakish and low growth ocurrs.

Our sailing club is moorings only but we are very friendly and probably the least expensive Singapore option. We have a couple of visiting boats all the time.

3-4 days from Thailand depending on how hard you push.
