G'day from Surfer Girl

I suppose I better introduce myself since I have already posted on a few threads here...

I'm a professional skipper who has sailed all over the world on various sailing vessels in the 80's & 90's, was a sailing instructor/charter skipper on Sydney Harbour in the early 00's and in 2003 took my young family sailing on Surfer Girl the Dufour 43 we bought in Guadeloupe. Since that time, I have been house bound with 3 kids, 2 dogs & a mortgage but still yearn to be cruising the world! The wife however, has a different view

I stumbled across this board a few days ago when I was researching a 1987 Hunter 45 and looking for reviews, info....

Reading all your posts has brought back great memories and for those of you out there now (or planning to get out there) posting from your yachts, sailing the world's oceans and seas, I am very envious! It is a great life, full of up's and down's but it keeps you real - if you know what I mean.

Welcome aboard Surfer. Calling you SurferGirl messes with my head when you're obviously not

Your experience and input will be appreciated here for sure.

Surfmachine, is the pope a catholic? I've been surfing all my life and surfed all over the world. I was in Nias surfing the same right hander you just paddled into back in 1985 - a bloody long time ago! Are you cruising the Mentawis? Where else have you been/are you going to in your yacht??

Lucky bastard!

Re: G'day from Surfer Girl

Ahoy surfergirl!!

Surf is way better here since the quake of few years ago, whole reef has lifted about 8' up in the air, waves are superb.

Had best day of surf , maybe, in my whole life today. 7 set waves before brekky, pushing 8' to 10' sets, waves the size of the gables on my house, a two story house, then 20 set waves in the arvo from 3pm to 6 pm, absolute glass, only 2 waves didn't get all the way. 6 guys out, the rest pounded out of the arena!!

Absolutely amazing waves here in lagundri bay. 30 foot faces easy!!!! riding my 7'5" I made at christmas, 4" thick round tail thruster, paddles onto anything and is really loose to surf and turn on the face.

These waves are like gold here!!?

Lovely fresh tuna for tea last night, from local fishing boat.
was going for roast chicken dinner ashore trhis evening with simon, old mate from Kuaii, but the indos bought him a pidgeon or quail, not enough even for 1 person, another day.

Will stay away from the Mentawis, too crowded, after 1 month here I move to Bawa, Asu, Afulu, on the west coast of Nias, then North, back to Bankaru and the Banyak Islands until October 10th, when I return to Sibolga for a 1 month visa extension, then maybe the Mentawis as I have to pick up a lot of gear from Padang. Back in Langkawi in late November.

Re: G'day from Surfer Girl

Thanks for the welcome guys...

Keith, you are really making me envious now! Ha! Ha!

Did you shape the 7'5" on the boat or at home in Oz? Only 6 guys out when it's that big is almost like surfing alone...
