Well im no expert, but I think you will find you will need to supply a little more info regarding what you intend to do, where you intend to go, how many are you, etc, etc

if you are looking to find out what band boat to buy--is up to your likes and dislikes in a boat. only you know that answer. it also depends on what you find fits your needs best--and what makes your heart beat.

As long as it has more than one hull it will be fine.

A boat sailed by a good sailor is often best for any cruising application. It can be any make / model as long as this specific make / model matches the chosen area and mode of cruising.

A safe boat is fine. If a boat is safe, then it is also desirable that the boat can carry some amount of cruising stuff - water, food, fuel, belongings, etc. - all this adds considerable weight.

If any upwind work is expected then some relatively narrow, relatively heavily ballasted boats with fine foils tend to point and sail upwind better than beamy, long-keeled and low-powered (small sail area) ones. Otherwise, a cat is great form most applications - light and comfy downwind. But only a good cat will sail upwind well.

Boats for higher latitudes will often be built stronger and in materials like steel or alloy. They will also offer more protection to the driver (which may be in the form of center cockpit, doghouse, etc.).

If your target cruising area includes extensive offshore work it is safer to stick with boats built for that application. The choice of boats for coastal and inshore cruising is much wider.

The "best boats for cruising", IMO, are the ones that are yours, serve your needs well, not bigger or more expensive than you can afford, and totally paid for!

Save some bucks for the cruising kitty...

Submarine, keep the waves 100 feet above you. If you can't find a nuke you will have to settle for diesel-electric. Check with the Russians for former and Brits for latter.
