A sad and heartwrenching story. I hope his womenfolk faired well during his absence.

Ann,

I think his wife managed OK, or certainly seemed so in her writings. (She is a regular columnist for Yachting Monthly, and also a national radio presenter).

Can read a little about her here

Re: Beautiful Moving Piece About Loss and Ocean Sailing

Conachair,
Very touching piece. It shares a father's dream of adventure and memory of a lost son in his communion with solitude and the sea. We so often forget that going to sea is rekindling a primal relationship we have lost with Nature and our inner self. And for some, this communion has recuperative powers. So much of our daily lives are spent in the vacuous pursuit of sustenance and mindless goals that we become numb to the healing powers of Nature and its importance to our lives. For Paul, like some of us, the memories will remain but life will continue forward as we are enriched by our meaningful experiences.

Interesting read, life certainly has its moments. I can't imagine losing one of my children.
