Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

At the start of our trips my iPod seems to vanish. Then, a day after we return it seems to re-appear.

Ya don't think the kids might not like my tunes do you?

Coops

Got a couple of Incredible String Band tunes on my Ipod shuffle. This Moment is a classic and First Girl I Loved. Though the Judy Collins version of First Girl is real good too.

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

Never knew ISB was at Woodstock, but, of course, I wasn't born yet. Coops, the When you Find out clip is cool, I have never really seen them before, but listened to 4-5 albums a lot. Drifted in to Pentangle from there, and then learned to play traditional music on fiddle and guitar. Thanks for posting, need to get some on my iPhone!

Could not find a clip of her singing that, but found this, which i had never seen before.

"Panama Red" put me in mind of this classic of military aviation music:

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

Seein' as how I am coming into this thread late, I had to redeem myself with this LONG version of Alice's Restaraunt.

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

I had some vivid aging hippie moments watching Crosby Stills & Nash at the Byron Bay Bluesfest over Easter. Got a bit misty-eyed as their music took me back to those girls, the dope and the acid, that young body I used to have.............

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

Nia, you and I seem to fondly remember Alice's. As you know, I could not find the original on a single player on youtube, so posted two players. The one you put up, we get a bit more dialogue and Arlo is older by 32 years, and he managed to cut the time by going at about 1 1/4 beat faster than when he did it back then.

Welcome to the aging hippies music thread.

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

Thanks for letting me join in. I do remember Alice fondly. I couldn't find an old version either but Arlo is Arlo. I may not have been old enough to go to Woodstock but I did listen to the music every chance I got. Thanks for the rerun on the memories.

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

I had an invite to go, but I was 17 and parents said "no". So my gf got other friends to help her drive her dad's one year old Camaro V8, 3 speed column shift, from California to NY. About a year later she bought me the 3 album set.

Re: "Aging Hippies Music Thread"

Chilliwack was a local band that often played at our schools and events. I even got to jam with them once.

This song “Raino” became their anthem…
....if there’s no audience there just aint no show

Sometimes it is the local bands you grow up with that help send you on your own journey.

A bit of where they are... then and now....
