Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

We do meet pleasant people aboard other yachts, for sure. We are of the same rich and idle kind.
But the local people, the natives sometimes very poor who are the real owner of the country we pretend to visit, are another source of genuine encounters, and vivid souvenirs.
Unfortunately, our glistering yachts, powerfull tenders distrustingly padlocked to the wharf, our ignorance of local language, our impatience, are barriers between us and them.
Make the effort of learning 10 words in the local language (Hello, please, thank you , very good....) row to the beach , walk or ride a bicycle or use the local bus inland, rent that derelict motorbike for a few $ and a handshake as a contract, look for local help for that little sewing job, hang around beyond the beach front bar, get yourself invited by fishermen to raise their nets at dawn, ...
You will enjoy what is arguably the genuine side of the voyage

You'll find what you project :-)

Cruising the icw south right now and really just a nice crowd. Always make point to shake hands and introduce myself.

Have a great experience and enjoy the buying process, it's part of the fun.

Sail away and consider yourself fortunate that you survived yet another onslaught. They all out there to g5rt us.. waiting! .. with their cute little ways...
Ironman,

Do let us know your cruising grounds so that we might avoid them.

Wow - just can not believe what you wrote -- But do us a favor and let us know where you are cruising so we can stay as far away from you as possible - and that is not from me but from the Admiral as she said he is someone we do not ever want to come across.

Thanks. Almost there. Boat buyer in next month or two.

as i recall from hollywierd 101a the alleged beautiful people donot mingle much.
yes you learn awesome tidbits from em that will save your skin, but they do not congregate.
as you progress you will find you are in the right place at the right time for the encounters. yes be patient. life happens and ye cannot either schedule it nor control it. have fun. pay attention to the trees as well as the forest. usually one is obliterated. the gods help those who help themselves.
oh, and the folks i meet and have met out here are interesting, but i would not change my life pattern.......

A great answer!

Delancey,

If you too feel that people are only nice when they want something from you, I'll avoid you as well...

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

From Merriam Webster

Full Definition of DUPLICITY

1
: contradictory doubleness of thought, speech, or action; especially : the belying of one's true intentions by deceptive words or action
2
: the quality or state of being double or twofold

I don't only think people are nice when they want something but I do think to say someone else isn't nice and should be avoided is not a very nice thing to say and is therefore twofold which expresses a doubleness of thought, speech, and action.

Anywhere there is little money and even fewer facilities. Especially avoid expensive marinas in poor country.

Here also. The struggling live aboards to the wealthy. Just look out for the near do wells with all the captain's hats and pressed clothing. For that matter look for the guy that looks like the help. He may be able to buy the marina with change or owns it. You can't beat boaters.

Thanks Chuck, From Trini to the E. US we have had the honor of meeting some of the finest folks. The rest we ignore.

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

Italy... They all live in Italy.

Presently, six months per year will have to do, but I'd move to Italy in an instant.

Coming back and readjusting to the hood has been difficult for me this year.
