Sailing to the Med 2013

Hi all

Is there anyone that is going sailing to the Mediterranean from Plymouth UK 2013. We will be in Dartmouth approx (depending on the weather window) March. We would like to catch up and hopefully cruise in company with other sailors of this destination.

Re: Sailing to the Med 2013

Tied up In Poole for the winter and planning to sail to the Med early to mid May 2013.

My boat is a Westerly Typhoon and I have sailer her to and from Holland, La Rochelle, St. John de Luz and the South Coast. Been thinking about the Med trip for a few years. Antibes would be where I want to be for the winter.

Plan to sail to Falmouth and wait for a good weather window. Wife will join me where it,s warm. My pal has crewed with me for a long time but we feel we would like a third man on board for this trip. Planning in early stage. Regards Mike C

Re: Sailing to the Med 2013

Hi there Silvery Moon

We should meet up before we head to the Med. We are new to these waters on this side of the world and need some reassurance from other experienced sailors crossing the Bay of Biscay. As mentioned before we have planned to sail to Plymouth in March, weather permitting of course, and then in May/June sail to the Med. We have been out of the sailing loop now for about 6 years, but sailed Australian waters for 20 years before that. Regards Dave and Kas

Hi Dave, Kas...
The Biscay does not really have a 'Good Time' as such... one of the worst storms I've experienced was in May in the Biscay.. we sailed from Gurnsey with a 6 day window and got hammered by F9+ 12hrs into the Bay... SE'ly really backed up the sea's...
Other times its a millpond and one motors most of the way..
Its no big deal though... just don't hug the coast or the contour line for the shelf...
