Future Liveaboard Tampa Area

Hello group, new here, so be gentle. My wife and I are planning to buy about a 40 ft sail, and thinking to use Tampa area as home base. Interested in anything anyone can add as to the idea of sailing in the gulf most of the time, as we are new to this. Is it a feasible thought to be based int he gulf or too restrictive? We plan on living aboard 4-5 months a year at least. Any help greatly appreciated. I jjust keep hearing wind, oil rigs, tanker issues and not a lot of places to sight see along coast o TX.

Re: Future Liveaboard Tampa Area

Tampa area is great for sailing and there are some liveaboard marinas in the area. The gulf coast has tons of destinations to sail to.

Check out regatta point marina in Palmetto, Fl. It's on the south side of Tampa bay, a great marina with great facilities. Also check out St. Petersburg on the west side of the bay. Very sailing friendly and lots to do.
