They are great and could teach other marinas a thing or two on customer service and what boat owners want and need.

I bought our boat in Croatia, the owner's mooring fees for the previous 12months was around 8,000 Euro's keeping in mind this is a catamaran.

Greece isn't any different so i think Australia gets off quite reasonably?

The previous owners of Airlie beach charged us about $3,400 per month for a 14 m cat.

There were lots of empty berths due to the price.

They went bankrupt!

New owner has dropped the prices, wish them every success.

Airlie Beach? That name brings back some happy memories , I think even went out on a backpackers sailing charter for a few days to the Whitsundays - first time I had experienced a F5 where the weather protection was centred around sun screen! - really messed with my mind!.......IIRC the Police later ran me out of town (ok, suggested "strongly" that the 1st bus in the morning would be a very good idea ......to be fair, they had a point ).

Last time we were there 2012, there were European backpackers everywhere laying around in the sun drinking cask wine, plenty of old maxi yacht doing 3 day trips around the islands too.
Terrible place, great scenery though.
My delivery crew of 2 guys refused to leave?

Lived on island at Happy Bay Long Island between '76 and '79 building our first yacht there in our spare time.

Did 4 or 5 Airlie Beach Fun races, can't remember exactly they were too much fun. That was in the days of Bacchus 'D' , Golden Plover, Torres Herald etc when the Whitsundays were very small and Keiths 'Hamilton Island' was a grazing lease for Deer etc.

Them were the days! Shotguns being fired outside of the Airlie Beach pub to break up disputes... Probably when David was being David???? LMAO

Lagoon4us Hey a mate of my dads owned Hamilton Island and he sold it to Keith Williams His house was where Keith built the first high rise as it was the only flat spot. Imagine they got demo guys in and blasted a passage through the reef in to what is now the marina can you imagine trying that now !!!! it would be jail for sure .

When we were there there was an American couple on a beautiful 'Lyle Hess' style timber double ender, every low tide he had to take an old D9 out and doze the reef to make way for the future development, often he'd jam the dozer between bommies and leave it for the next day.
He drove the old 'Seaworld' Haines Formula ski-boats and i drove the 'Happy Cat' a 23 foot Shark Cat so we'd meet up at Shute Harbour picking up passengers and stores fairly regularly.
Keith's daughter wanted me to head up a crew 'to build dad's' resort, i laughed thinking it would never happen, show's what i know.........
