Key West to Caymans????

If anyone has info on the best course to sail leaving from Key West going to the Cayman's, we could use the input we have never done it before so.........

We went from Key West to Cuban waters got stopped by the USCG. Then went west to just a few miles off Cuba. Around the west end then to Grand Cayman.

We went to George Town to check in but found out later we could have checked in at a marina. We got chased out of George Town by a bad cold front from the west. Went south to South Beach(?) for the night. Then all the way up north to get into the bay to the Barcadere marina. Nice marina right by the airport close to a big grocery store and liquor store.
