I've often heard around 30 feet is a good size for a person who single handles a lot. It's what I have and am very comfortable being by myself. If you will have crew (wife) you could go larger 40+ But, remember that dockage and storage is charged by the foot. It adds up if you do it a lot. So put that into your calculations too.

Part of the problem making things worse for cruisers in many places is the bend over and take it attitude too many of us harbor. You are speaking for yourself alone when you say what you have about others experiences being abnormal. Sounds the same as saying don't listen to those cruisers 'cause I know best. More of us should be reporting corruption and saying no. Have you ever?
