Bluewater Insurance

IMHO the loss is always larger than the premium you paid so dealing with an insurer and agent that wants to honor their promise to pay a claim is a better idea than saving a few bucks on the premium.

Wow, reading all these posts makes me a little bit queasy about the fact that I just renewed with bluewater last week. May I never have a claim. They were one of the few that seemed willing to insure a steel hull, also with Santam.

i had a storage insurance with them ,and they were the cheapest from all of them . This year when we had to renew it ,the price went up $300.
But the price for the navigational insurance was $2400 versus $3330 from international and they are advertising that their insurance is "old for new" , which means if you have damage to your boat they will replace it with new ,without depreciation cost .But what happen if you boat sinks, will I get a new one?

Since I am new to "cruising" and had no idea that there were only one or two insurance companies in the US that would write a policy for my Morgan 43, I sent inquiries out to anyone who wrote marine insurance anywhere. What I found was that only a few could offer the coverage and when I chose to go with a local firm who had already covered my vessel with the former owner I received a nasty e-mail from Bluewater stating that my "file" would be "flagged" and I would never be able to purchase insurance from them. I explained my position to the jerk at Bluewater only to have him send me another blistering e-mail and rantings about being cheated out of commission. I informed him that Bluewater was now on my *(&^ list and I would notify all of the cruisers that I met of my experience with his company and so here it is.........stay away from this guy ----- he's not very nice to deal with and there are nicer folks out there.

Being "new" to cruising, and looking forward to the Great Lakes before cruising Blue Water, this insurance info has been most helpful.
