Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie

I dock in the Lake Erie Islands area and I'm very interested in the bicentennial coming up this October.

Even though it's only 9 months away and I can't find out A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G about what tall ships are expected . . .

I hear there might be as many as 16 tall ships.

The only tall ship that I've actually heard will be there is the Caravel Niagara, which is the ship that Perry took over as his flagship when his ship was rendered useless.

No matter where I look, I cannot find out much of anything about this "big" celebration that's going to be taking place.

Usually . . . the airwaves are lit up with all sorts of information, but this celebration almost seems like a secret.

I even noticed that where I often eat breakfast(in downtown Port Clinton), the banner about the bicentennial has been removed . . . what gives?

Maybe we don't want the Canadians to know?

I hail out of Catawba and will keep an eye out for any other info.

You enjoy the Alacart for breakfast?

Re: Bicentennial of the battle of Lake Erie

Some of the tall ships will be at Leamington marina on Labour Day weekend, not sure how much info is posted on the website yet, but Ronan, the marina manager, told us the news when we were in to pay for our slip.

Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial 1813-2013 This is the best site I've found. Doesn't say which ships yet. We're in Sandusky and looking forward to the events this summer.

Re: Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie

I've been there a few times and really do like it.

On Sundays, we often go to the Elks too.

Re: Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie

Last year the Coast Guard set a buoy at the battle site and kinda "officially", transferred control of the Great lakes from the old navy to the new navy.

The actual battle took place in October 1813. It began west of Put-in-Bay and drifted northwesterly toward West Sister Island area and the battle's climax.
