My mistake. THIS is San Juanico.
Tacoma Sailer posted a pic of Los Gatos.
I will never forget one night when we were anchored here. No moon, and we started to hear the sound of rushing
water.
It got louder and louder so we went on
deck with the spotlight.
There was a line of white
water from the Western shore all the way out to the entrance.
It got closer and closer to us. Eventually we saw a lot of writhing of thousands of squid, swimming back and forth.
Their colors were flashing bright red to silver. They went all around the
boat and kept going.
When they reached the shore (in the foreground of this picture) the
noise stopped.
The next morning, there were thousands of dead squid on the beach. The pile was about a foot deep.
We saw lots of pangas and the drivers were piling up the squid and carrying them off.
After a couple of days the stench drove us out of there.
The next few
anchorages had experienced the same thing, and were equally smelly.
We were in
Mexico for 4 years and only experienced this once.
