gopro

just wondering how many folks are playing with a gopro. I just started to use ours and due to an id10t error (dont pull start your outboard with the same hand your gopro is straped to) its now in 80ft off Phuket.
heres my first and only edit, its a bit foggy due to moisture in the case but i've sorted that out with the new 4 silver.

Re: gopro

Thanks Rustic, youtube instruction vids were the start I needed, before that I was just revisiting words used to express confusion, and exasperation.

We like to strap ours to our kiteboarding kites. Homemade mount:

Re: gopro

I do use gopro alongside a dslr for video. Iancoombe, nice footage, especially underwater. To me the colors (out of water) have a yellowish cast. Don't know if this comes from the settings in the cam, foggy lens, or did you do something to them in post processing?

EDIT: seems that at least part of the problem is my screen here, so probably no worries in your production.

Livia, excellent! Have watched your vids on youtube. The kite shots are gorgeous. Do you only use gopro for all shooting?

Here's a video from one of our last weekend trips this season. Some gopro shots there.

Re: gopro

For those that want action video but are on a budget, you might look at SKCAM. For about $75 on Amazon you get the camera, underwater housing, a variety of mounts, etc.

There are some YouTube videos comparing it to the GoPro. Sooner or later I'll look into it in more detail for myself.

Thanks Sandibar! We use the gopro only on the kite but our other all around camera which we use under water (snorkel depths) and on land is a Lumix TS4. Most of our sailing and in country videos were taken with that. There are better point and shoots on the market but in the "also underwater" category we are very happy with the quality of that model.

Example photos and link to camera type here:

Re: gopro

A Gopro can be lots of fun, I've shot quite a few scuba diving adventures and currently I'm working on a sailing video I hope to post soon. Just be careful not to flood the camera, as Gopro doesn't warranty a wet camera. It's important to check the underwater case before each use and lube the seals. Here's something I did a year ago unrelated to sailing:

Do you mean the SJCAM and have you used one? I'd quite like some kind of video camera but a gopro is really expensive for features I can't see me using

I've seen some factory reconditioned gopros on eBay recently for $175 with a factory warranty. I might even buy a second one and try the 3D stuff.

gopro

I went the sjcam route. Compared it to my friends GoPro this summer and the GoPro wasn't worth the extra money for the image.

That said, I was jealous of the ability to control the GoPro from his camera which made me wish I had gone with the wifi version of the sjcam.
