Understatement of the day perhaps?
Three thousand odd miles up-wind and against the current; what constitutes 'a lot of a sail' Boatguy30?

Re: How to get into Australia?

Shorter than Panama Marquesas and not really entirely upwind as there isn't anything of a steady trade below 25s. Could probably be here by middle of November if left ASAP.

Re: How to get into Australia?

The two statements are both correct. Its just that NZ is closed to everyone except NZ citizens and permanent residents returning to NZ. NZ govt also allows foreigners to arrive for urgent work purposes eg finishing making a movie, replacement crew on a ship already in NZ. There is no way, truculently, that a foreign national can go to NZ purely for the purpose of quarantining prior to flying to Sydney.

Re: How to get into Australia?

Re sailing in Australia;
it may be that after two weeks quarantine in NZ non Kiwis can enter Australia.
BUT: (Oct 9)
Only a small number of people can travel to New Zealand, such as New Zealand citizens and people with a critical purpose to travel. You may need to request to travel first.

Who can come to New Zealand without requesting to travel?
You can come here without first requesting to travel if you are:

a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
a resident with valid travel conditions, unless you got a resident visa outside New Zealand and you have never used it to travel here
a partner or dependent child of a New Zealand citizen or resident, and your visa is based on this relationship
a diplomat who holds a post in New Zealand.

I'm not sure using NZ as a way to go sailing in Australia would pass muster. in your request for an "exemption". And even when/if you get here, you won't be able to travel just anywhere.

Re: How to get into Australia?

Assuming this is a sincere request and you are an experienced sailor:

There are a handful of yachts from 34' to probably 200' leaving Tahiti in the next weeks for NZ

Atleast one boat is looking for crew and will consider taking a non-kiwi if allowed.

If you have the flexibility and can fly to FP, you might want to reach out on the French Poly cruisers FB page to find a boat. Call the Australian embassy as well I would suggest you may possibly be able to get a transit only visa for NZ as you'll have quarantined at sea prior to entering NZ, but won't technically have been in NZ for 2 weeks. Obtaining a visa for NZ as "yacht crew" is happening and I know of at least one NZ owned/ non kiwi flagged vessel attempting to get visas for European crew.

There's always a way!
