Wheel Brake for Hans Christian 43 T

I have a well used Hans Christian 43 T, which I have sailed over 14,000 miles in the last 4 years. The wheel brake no longer works (everything moves, but it does not hold). I have searched everywhere I know to search for new brake linings to fit this boat. The standard Edson brake linings for a horizontal brake wheel do not fit. Any ideas?

You don't say what kind of steering you have. If I needed new brake shoe material for our steering I would get something like a scooter or small motorcycle brake shoe and cut it down to fit.
