Stainless Steel cable on BronZe pulley

I am wanting to convert my tiller to wheel steering, and have been collecting used parts to complete the system.
THE QUESTION.....can I use SS cable on a BronZe pulley? I found an older part on Ebay at a decent price but am not sure if the harder cable would chafe the bronZe pulley?
The boat is a Tartan30. I know many will find fault in the idea of the change but I just feel like a wheel will fit my needs a little better.
Just a mention.....I check this forum everyday, and have learned a lot. I am grateful to the regulars on here and the the folks that maintain this site.

Yes you can...

I would give Edson a call and see what part numbers were original equipment on the wheel steered boats.

They are good about keeping their hardware working, and good to work with on conversions and modernizing.

Cheers,

Zach

You can buy my bronze sheaved, ss cable steering pedestal and all the goodies cheap. Ditched the damn wheel for the blissfully responsive and reliable tiller so it's surplus to me. Have no idea why anyone would want to stuff a wheel on to such a nice boat as a tiller steered Tartan 30, however.

Never thought about it but we have cast Aluminum pulleys in our steering and I don't see any wear on them, Bronze would be even better right?

Stainless is fine. Besides, where can you find bronze wire?

I would also keep the tiller instead of converting.
