Painting over VC17?

VC17 is not a paint recommended for use in saltwater much less the high-fouling waters of the Caribbean. Even regular sailing and cleaning are not going to keep that stuff clean.

I agree with you completely, however, if his goal is to remove the VC without aggressive sanding and loss of time, this is a cost effective way. I used VC17 on my last boat for 17 years. If he sails his boat regularly heading south and scrubs the bottom 2-3 times a month, it will eventually erode to the original substrate and he can haul, sand, paint and relaunch in a day. I had considered that since the paint is only a season old with no blistering. Since it's out of the water now I want to paint the hull the same time I do the through-hulls. I feel doing it right now, even though adding work and cost now, will save me time, money and headache down the road.

Yes get rid of the VC17. Sitting two weeks with VC17 in the ICW or Carib will be a disaster.
