Painting Non-Skid - Recommendations?

I agree with Joli. I sanded then filled in between the diamonds. This created a raised area. Then I used softsand a rubber nonskid product. The result a first class job. Lots of work.

No we are in Toronto, Canada but it can get ninety up here in the summer so I think grey would be OK for you. We will be taking the boat south and I don't the grey will be an issue. You could mix it half and half with white if you think its to dark or they can also mix a custom color for you I think. I'll try to figure out how to post a picture, not sure if there is some kind of posting rule here.

I used the International and it is just-just, and it wears off. Have seen others gluing the TBS - easy job and looks neat. Good non-skid grip (tested).

That grey will darken up a few degrees as time goes on. I had that happen with my Kiwigrip. Nonetheless, it has done really well in the sun, little heat. I have it on my cockpit seats, which I thought might have been a mistake, but turns out its easy on the @$$ too! =)

Barnakiel, by International do you mean their Interdeck product? If so, how long did it last before you noticed it starting to wear off, and is the paint itself still in good condition (not flaking off), just the non-skid losing grip?

I am interested in your experience, and that of any other forum members, because I'm just about to buy Interdeck.

If you're using kiwigrip, just buy the white. Because it's waterbased you can take it to any paint store, like Home Depot, and they can tint it any color you like. We did ours in a real subtle green, to go with the green canvas.
If you're going to the Caribbean, you'll want it very light. It takes surprisingly little color to smoke your feet!
I've been real happy with my kiwi grip that I applied about a year ago. Really good non-skid properties, but like any nonskid, the better the grip the harder to keep clean!

Positive I recall the name was probably the Interdeck (in any case we used the non-slip paint they have in offer right now - it was fresh, in good date and we preped the deck very thoroughly - wash, detergent, acetone). Off-white. It was not flaking but I could see the marks everywhere one slips - like on the cabin side - if you step on it with a good grip deck shoes and then suddenly slip a couple of inches. So I think it is very good non-slip pain but will not be visually pleasing on any boat that is sailed extensively.

My own deck is diamond gelco 30 y.o. and no issues.

The paint probably best if you have a big area but limited budget. But if it is a smaller area and the cost of a non-slip TPS or Vetus is not prohibitive these would be my preference.

Thx Dude! Guess I should have "looked" before I "leaped". Actually the Grizzly Grip seems to have more color selection. We'll be "skinning" the bow back to the deckhouse for core replacement in the next couple weeks and due to the PO screwing up the gelcoat, figured to just forego the gel and paint after the repair and put down one of these instead.

I've got some of the same problems concerning the nonskid.. getting to the point that you can see dark areas through the gelcoat...
I was thinking of just adding a coat of gelcoat by spray and adding a "killer" to the paint to kill the shine.. The dimonds are still in fair shape and origional and I didnt want to screw that up...
Has anyone been sucessfull in re-gelcoat of the deck...
