Re: Looking for a Welder in or close to Grenada

I would highly recommend Silvio at Saga bay, he did some great work for us in 2017, you may need to book early as he’s in demand.
Unfortunately I was late this year (2018) so had to use Nick at Técniks In Spice island marina, the yard was great again highly recommended but Nick was awful to deal work, the work was not of the best quality but the biggest problem was the attitude. Despite paying the high price in full and even giving a tip, the staff blatantly lied and Nick himself ended the dealings with a barrage of abuse not only against myself but cruisers in general, particularly it seems Australians though I am not one... he seems a little unhinged.
I would highly discourage using Tecniks but highly recommend Silvio at ‘on the spot marine’

Re: Looking for a Welder in or close to Grenada

I had a positive experience with Nick from TechNik at Spice Island Marine in September 2018 and would recommend his work. I needed a damaged aluminum chainplate removed, a new chainplate fabricated and then welded in place and he did a phenomenal job. Nick was a bit hard to get on the phone at times and coupled with the "island time" component from Spice Island Marine to schedule removal of woodwork it did take about a week longer than planned. The welding portion was really only delayed by the woodwork removal so no fault of TechNik.

Polite and persistent follow up with everyone involved in the process seems imperative to get desired results. Phone calls seem to be more effective than emails to get things moving.

A few days later I saw the floating welding shop in Carriacou but didn't get a chance to stop by. Looks like he was still open for business in September 2018.
