Harken Furler

I need ro replace the furling line on my Harken furler. Never did it myself, but it seems simple enough. Can I unfurler it ( jib) and have the line do the wrapping or do I need to hand turn the drum on the furler? I think the line is a 7/16, should stay with that size?

Take the sail off the foil. Remove old furling line. Replace line and turn the drum to take up line. Hoist sail. Furl. Make sure you turn the drum in the proper direction so that the UV strip on the sail will be on the outside when the sail is furled.

No need to take the sail off the drum. Just undo the sheets and coil them neatly tied to the furled sail. Then you can, by hand, unroll the old furling line, tie on the new, wind a couple of times to give you the extra turn or two, then rerun your sheets. No big deal.

Oops. Misread the title - though it said "Farken Hurler". Thought it was a thread about seasickness.

Those "extra couple of turns" are important - if you furled the sail in light conditions and then refit the furling line, the sail will not furl fully in stronger conditions, the worst time to be fyling unwanted canvas . . . loved the Hurler quip too!!
