Gasket on a small engine compartment.

Is it safe to use closed cell foam gasket tape on the hatch of a small engine compartment? Is it flammable, same as the 2 part and the spray in place stuff? Actually is that stuff even flammable once set, or only while curing?

Is a small engine like a Westerbeke even going to get hot enough for this to be a problem...and is it even an issue with the small amount of foam used just for a gasket?

Only reason I'm asking, is because I have a roll, that will otherwise sit in the spare parts bin until it rots away.

Re: Gasket on a small engine compartment.

It's fine. I have it on my cockpit sole hatches to the engine compartment. As long as it's away from the exhaust elbow, you should be fine. The engine usually runs under 200 degrees F. It's good to ask about these sort of things.

Yeah, I guess it was crazy of my to think it's combustion point was low enough for engine heat to ignite it. Thanks!
