Fire Port

I have a Yanmar 3HM35F and for obscure reasons I have to install a fire port in the event of an engine fire. If there was to be an engine room fire, where would it most likely start? Which side or end of the engine would be best served by the fire port (a device to allow the entrance of an extinguisher without adding O2)?

Re: Fire Port

The one on my boat is located at the forward end of the engine compartment, over to the side where most of the fuel system is located (filters, pumps, injectors).

Ah
Visibility counts, put it where you don't need to search,(subsequent operators), a swing sideways hatch that can take the nozzle of the intended extinguisher, think they usually go low down.
You should also have a engine stop and ventilation stop nearby. And a procedure.
