Knotty, how many layers is that, I've lost count. For what it's worth, for lapping cloth I've used dowels that tuck under the cloth to keep the last 3 or 4 inches of cloth from getting resin on it. That 'flap' comes down to set nicely to the next lay-up.

Delmarrey, that is beautiful. Tell me, did you use a shaper for the large radius rounded corners? Ahem, by the way, other than around the carriage bolt heads at stbd bottom I don't see anything too bone weary.

It's doing all them sharp inside corners by hand, that's a beach. Don't want to hijack Ricks thread so goto my blog for more details (bottom of post).

Hey Richard

Thanks for looking in. The outer hull gets 3 layers, two structural, 18 oz biax 45/45, 12 oz biax 0/90 and one layer of 10 oz satin weave. Double on the keel. Counting tape and overlaps the stem will have 8 layers of glass and an extra layer of 20 oz triax carbon fiber. The way I've overlapped the bottom of the keel it'll have 8 layers of glass and an extra layer of the same carbon fiber. I deviated slightly from the lamination schedule on the bottom panels by using 1 layer of 33 oz triax Vectorply & 12 oz 45/45 instead of the 18 & 12 oz biax's.

I've made plenty of mistakes and spend a lot of extra time sanding away my sins!

I'll keep that tip in mind. I've only had to stop once and laid a piece of peel ply over top of the seam and squeegeed the crap out of it. It worked well.

C'mon over Del. I have a sanding block with your name on it!

Today the sides get their layer of 12 oz biax.

Had a buddy come over to help out with the epoxy work today. Jimmy (Sticky Fingers) Campbell joined the boat shed crew for the day. It made the 4 hours work in 7 1/2 hours go by quickly!

If I said I was happy it'd be an understatement! No drips, runs, bubbles, voids or dinkleberries to sand off later!



This was the area with the hump were the panel joins deformed. I was worried I wouldn't be able to fair it out. I'm sure the Project Manager would approve if he'd get out of his basket and inspect the workin's!

She's a real beaut and that's because of your dedication. Maybe the next layer you should pile on thick the resin. Since you'll be insane with sanding anyway, you could use it as your fairing. Call it good. Paint and slip her down the ways to your next life.
