Volvo 2003 Fuel Pressure

Today we had to sail to the dock because the Volvo 2003 wouldn't start and run at normal idle speed. It ran very slowly while the starter was turning and a bit after the starter was released, then quit. It seemed like a fuel delivery problem. Changed the primary filter and manually activated the fuel lift pump lever to purge air out the vent in the filter housing. No pressure from the pump - no fuel out the escape screw hole. Checked the screen in the pump - it's clean. Checked downstream and there was fuel in the lines between the secondary filter and the pump. I suspect the lift pump needs replacement or rebuilding. Is there anything I've missed?

First make sure pump is in right position eg: lobe on cam isn't holding pump lever up when you try and use it manually, just turn engine over a bit and try again, if no joy whip it off and have a look at it pretty simple things really, usually just a diaphragm which can tear and a couple of non return valves
