Re: Starting a stored Yanmar Engine

Nothing like a happy ending, and I agree change out the impeller for a fresh one, cheap and easy. Congrat's

Now just make certain you have good clean fuel too. I don't know if any said that but don't use old contaminated fuel. If your tanks are suspect at all just get in there and clean everything well.
Ended up putting in a new fuel tank during this refit so clean tank and clean fuel. It was nice to have that electric pump installed to get the fuel up from the tank and though the lines.

I did flush the raw water system with fresh water when we first went in the yard and I’ve turned the fly wheel by hand several times. Other than that, nothing.

Is there anything I should do before I try to start the engine?
Thanks very much.

Change the oil and its filter, polish the fuel and renew the filters, change the raw water pump impeller and the coolant, check the exhaust system and seawater strainer for obstructions. And check the drive belts.

Re: Starting a stored Yanmar Engine

You really should pull the valve cover to see if any rust is on the valve train.
This area is often overlooked in a long term storage and can cause a lot of problems.
Top engine gets little oil as it is , and if it was sprayed on before lay up, it'll be fine.
