Replacement Engine for Columbia 8.7

I have an 8.7 Columbia without an engine. I was given a Westerbeke 4-107 with trannie and parts.
My question is, "Will this engine work in my boat without major changes?" How about the trannie? It looks as though it will, but just not sure.

My boat is in Norfolk, VA. So, anyone with some ideas or knows someone local I could talk too, I would greatly appreciate it
.

Wow!!!! I think that is way to much or that boat. I had a columbia 9.6 that had a 2 cylinder Volvo ( 10 HP) and it worked just fine. I would say max 25HP the 4017 is about 50HP.

Re: Replacement engine for Columbia 8.7

Generally speaking a minimum of 2 hp per ton of vessel weight. A good re-power is around 4 hp. per ton. I believe the 4-107 is 36 hp. at the output shaft. Hope this helps.

Re: Replacement engine for Columbia 8.7

Thanks for the input. I have reached the conclusion, I simply need a larger boat. I will continue to look for matching partners for both, the engine and the boat.
Thanks again.

Re: Replacement Engine for Columbia 8.7

I put a Universal M30 in mine when I had it. A little much but I never lacked for power. I only buy used engines and this one was a gem. I miss that boat!
