Perkins (again)

It was told that the "Sabre" side of Perkins-Sabre comes from the original maker of the other small diesels in their line, British Sabre. Basically, the corporate owners at the time (cat maybe?) needed to fill out the line of small diesels so they merged Perkins/Sabre.

Enignes like the Perkins-Sabre M92B are modern versions of the old Perkins 4192 (I think?) which are still running in many boats today, but otherwise the same block. Many of the other engines in their lineup came from British Sabre. Of which I have been told by a few to avoid them for marine applications, otherwise there doesnt seem to be much data on the Sabre engines.

That is what I have been "told" at least

I also heard (local diesel mechanic so I consider it fairly reliable) that a few of the mid-hp small diesels made by Volvo were in fact based on Perkins blocks. This was a few years ago, so it may no longer be the case.
