Mariner SeaPro 15 Outboard Maintenance

Hey all,

We are doing some maintenance work and refitting of a 29' 1968 Quorning Trimaran which has a Mariner SeaPro 15hp (15MLA Belgian/International model) from 1997. The previous owner doesn't really seem to have kept up with too much on the outboard, as the anode was hanging on for dear life, and there is some corrosion around the outside prop nut. Additionally, we had a leak on the in-engine side fuel line connector which was causing gas to leak, a poor vacuum, and the engine to die at the most inopportune times. We have replaced the zinc and both the in-engine fuel line connector and the outside one. No more fuel leaks, and now a proper vacuum is allowing the engine to run without dying.

So, I wanted to get some of the other major maintenance items out of the way, and we are planning on hauling this engine off the boat to do the following:

- New Spark plugs w/ dielectric on recommend areas
- Full Water pump rebuild (gaskets/impeller/plates/housing)
- New fuel filter external housing, gasket, and filter screen
- Gear oil change and upper/lower oil plug screws/washers replaced
- Propeller removal w/ light cleaning of shaft, grease with 2-4-C
- Lubricate/Grease all remaining recommended lubrication points with appropriate light oil/2-4-C

Does anyone have any comment about any additional items we should knock out while we're at it or other tips for this outboard to make the job easier? Keep in mind, I am a novice with regard to outboard maintenance, with this being my first one to really have worked on, but am pretty good at researching, following instructions, and most of this stuff seems pretty straightforward.

P.S. The reason we are changing the fuel filter is that we had snapped the small intake connector of very brittle plastic on the external fuel filter housing during replacement of the fuel line connector. It is currently "pressure fit" and not leaking at all, but we figured why not replace it while we're at it and keep the current one as a spare.
