Kanzaki KM2P vs KM3P?

I dropped a rebuilt engine into my Prout Cat this afternoon...but I've now got a 1/2" gap between the trans output plate and the shaft plate.

I removed a 3GM30F with a KM3P trans, and the rebuilt 3GM30F came with a KM2P. From what I read I thought they were the same length?
Can I just put a bushing plate in there or something? I really don't want to fill and re-drill all the engine mount holes for 1/2"!

Also, from what I read it looks like the KM2P trans was mainly used on the 2GM20...anyone know of any issues with one on a 3GM?

Thanks!
-Chuck

Re: Kanzaki KM2P vs KM3P?

Ok, well looking at the service manual closer...it looks like the KM2P distance from rear motor mount bolt to trans coupler is 6.77" while it's 7.25" for the KM3P.

Guess I'm reusing the trans off my old engine! Suppose I could get it rebuilt...how long are these trans units usually good for?

Thanks,
-Chuck

you could also buy a new longer shaft. couple hundred bucks each.

there are also some (or at least one) vibration absorbing plates that between the two couplers that might make up for the gap...

Re: Kanzaki KM2P vs KM3P?

Thanks for the reply onestep!

I don't really have a shaft...it's a catamaran so I have a Sillette Sonic Cat Drive (outdrive). Already a flex coupling on there...looks like it'd be possible to bushing it out...but I don't want to ghetto rig it ya know!

I'll try to post a picture of it tomorrow. Might be good as a reference for the forum...for the next guy replacing a 3GM30 in an old 70's Prout Snowgoose
