Fuel guage very optimistic

Have a Beneteau 373 2005 with a volvo 2040
The fuel guage is very out.
Based on the tank and what i put in it when reading 1/4 it is empty.
Stays on full for a very long time.
The boat is in charter so this is a real problem.
Is there a way to adjust the guage? Sorry i do not have the type at hand.
I do not not know if it was like this from new.
Thanks in advance...

You can lift the sensor and try it by hand. If faulty, replace with same type. If the tank has a proper inspection hatch, this can be done without removing the sensor but removing it is often the shorter and less messy procedure.

Gauges do not fail often, suspect sensor first.

Float arm is too long, easy to adjust but you need to pull the sender. If you look at egauges.com, I think they have the instructions for adjusting for tank depth. You may need to slide the mechanism along the upright to then adjust the upper limit.
