Does this look right?

I took out my water pump in the lower unit of my 1987 Starcraft 19' boat and thought it looked odd. The temp of the engine stays between 160 and 190*. Not sure if this is normal or if i need new water pump. Anyone know?

OMC Cobra water pump. No, Nein. never. all blades should be leaning one way. If the blades are still pliable and have no evidence of tip wear or cracking it is still usable. Grease the inside of the housing with Vaseline or other light grease and rotate the impeller with a screwdriver in the proper direction while fitting it into the housing. You will need a water pump gasket set before re installing it. How do I know this? I rebuild these and Mercury drives for a living.

Doesn't look right to me. IME, all the blades on the rotor should flex in the same direction.

Check wether the rubber part is rigidly attached to the hub. Also check wether the rotor is the right one for this pump.

sometimes they go like that when turning backwards a few degrees, if you "rock" the flywheel back and forth it will go like that. Otherwise it looks normal. Check that the vanes turn when the shaft turns, sometimes the rubber lets go of its boss. Use glycerine or liquid soap to lube, never use grease, it can affect the rubber making it let go of the boss.

The grease is flushed out very quickly once you run the boat

The vanes should all lean the same direction, after at least one full pump revolution. Since the vanes will self-align, when rotated, it doesn't really matter what direction they lean, when installed.
