Never overheat it as they are known to be weak in the Head deck and gasket department, early series are particularly bad due to smaller head studs. Detroit built a great 2 stroke should have left the 4 strokes to Cat and Cummins.

We had a DD8.2 in our first boat. Worked fine, no problems. You could review the Johnson & Towers (J&T) website for marinizing info.

Keep the cooling and alarm system in good order also pay attention to Valve lash clearances and fuel timing.
