Question DR Pet Entry

According to the hispanola.com web site, I need a health certificate for our dog issued within 14 days of entry to the Dominican Republic.

We will, of course, have a certificate, but it will probably be issued more than 14 days before entry since we will transit and enjoy the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos on the way down.

Has anyone on the forum been hassled because of the date on their pet's health certification?

George

While I haven't been there in quite a few years, some things I expect don't change much. Once you see the sad state of the mangy mongrels that run wild around the island you'll see the irony in requiring your pet to have a health certificate. Worst case, being out of date may allow them to twist your arm for a bit heftier 'mordida' but I wouldn't expect a big problem. They did make sure that my vicious 14 pound dog was securely caged before the customs guys would board though.

we are in DR at the moment. Which port are you comming in? We brought in our cat with a health certificate that is 5 months and it was fine. Small ports don't know all the details but bureaucracy is unbelieveble. Don't give them US dollars unless there is an official-enough looking receipt. On one ocation when I knew they are just trying to rip me off, I just gave them my CC. They looked at it, and couldn't do anything with it. Usually in very small prots a small bottle of rum does the trick.

We will probably enter at Luperon or Porta Plata. We have friends that live near the latter and will visit them.

We wont take the time to fully explore but might get as far as Samana. As I understand it, we have to check out at each port and in at the next. Did you get a permit from your first port of entry to make taking the cat to other ports possible, or do you have to deal with it each time?
