Anyone Else Looking at Catana ?

Would like to see if maybe someone is in the market to buy a Catana and would like to join us in chartering one. This way we can test it out and split the cost. My schedule is wide open! So I am able to meet you on your time schedule.

Yes, we are looking at cats. Would love a chris White cat, but they are a bit pricey at this time. Catana is another brand we are looking at. Might be interested in your charter arrangement.

We would be open to this idea - depending on where, when, and which particular Catana. would have to be a fairly new one 41-44'. Some of the larger or older models aren't really representative of what their building now. Nick

I agree Nick... we are looking at the same length. As to where... wherever for us doesn't really matter. Anytime on a Cat is a great time! I will gather information on Charters and prices.

Back to the serious though. The helm thing on the Catanas, right? They are sometimes called "Rambo helms", but the key is to have a good AP (perhaps with adequate spares on hand).

They don't call those helm stations, "Shake & Bake" for nothing. Very sporting, true. Fun, when the sun's out and the seas are nice. Can you imagine hand steering for hours (days?) in nasty conditions, a foot from the deep blue?

I never understood why so many of the French cats used those.

As far as I can tell the vast majority of sailors and designers are... apprehensive...to own a boat with those help positions despite the quality and genius displayed in the design of literally the rest of the boat. I have no numbers to support this but every conversation I have about catanas seems to reflect this.

Basically, what is bizarre in my opinion, is that they haven't made that helm placement an optional and have a design variant with the helm behind the bridge-deck. I suspect they'd sell quite a few of those boats.

AP... of course! Duhhh! Yes a good AP would be a must and trust me extra parts is a must... including a DB!
The helm...again it's that give and take thing. I bet you can see the sails better though. On the Prout I was getting a stiff neck looking strait up all the time. On this we would able to move from one side to another and being further back means less neck bend. Also be nice when docking. And we can have his and hers Helm...... ok maybe not a good idea. Also I keep hearing that 95% of the time you are on AP anyways! Besides I have always had fast Motorcycles, Cars, Trucks... why stop now? Might as well have a fast Cat house. Fast means able to go away from the storms! The hull design seems to make sence too!

Price is shown at $440,598.76 at todays Euro rate. And it seems to have decent outfit with it... so for that much... I would take it! However no interior shots... so the verdict is still out yet.
Oh not to mention there is a 100% return on a charter threw Multihull Co!!!!

Docking - not so much. The throttles are only on one side, plus most docking is all done by working the engines and the helm centered.

When we test sailed a Catana, I was on one helm and my wife was on the other. I wanted to tack - she didn't!

Up date: $440,000 is just the base price. Just got the specs and options price sheet. Here they are:

Of course the pricing is in Euros so I will have to convert everything... not a good first impression in my mind!
