advice- replace mast on lagoon 420/2008

hi,

could anyone say if mast from lagoon 39 (the short version) could be adapted on a lagoon 420?
adapting an used mast from some sail yacht? is it technically sound?
any solution you may think of?

thanks,

flo

Masts from smaller boats can always be adapted to other boats. The stepping on a 38 or 39 cat is similar to yours. It's a good move to get your overall height down on that boat, I think your air draft is 70 feet plus. Getting it down to 62 foot gives you the opportunity to come in from the deep whenever you want. It would be like running with a single reef in your main. Cut the sail from the bottom and use your original boom. Your hull sails well with a single reef so you won't give up much speed if any at all.

A 420 can barely sail with the stock mast. Do you motor a lot?

Re: advice- replace mast on lagoon 420/2008

@ LIZZYFISH -hi, thanks a lot for the reply- I am not sure if the insurance company has anything to say about, when replacing with the shorter mast; could it be a problem with the spreaders, the angle of the shrouds, as the mast is shorter? should the spreaders be replaced, in order to get same shroud angle?
What do you think of another option(it may e foolish, but I ll say it ):
I could get the mast and boom from an oceanis 50 at a very good price: mast is 20m, boom is 6.25 m; do you think it could be stepped on the lagoon, or it would be wiser to get the shorter mast (16m) version of the 39 's ?

Many with that boat just shorten the existing mast to the height they want. Why don't you consider doing that before retrofitting something else?

there is no existing mast at all- so I can have the mast and boom of the lagoon 39- short version; or the 20m mast and boom of the oceanis 50.
offer for new original mast and boom was at 15500€; oceanis 50-7000€, lagoon 39-4000€
regards,

Flo

yes I have real numbers- sparcraft sent me the proforma for the original mast and boom;
the other items are from overstocks , new items- real offers.
anything else, besides your quick, rather poor judgement?

And what gives you that stupid opinion, have you ever owned a 420 or even sailed one? The guy asked for info on replacing his mast, he didn't asked for your opinion on how the boat sailed.. my 420 has happily sailed from the Caribbean to New Zealand.

Maybe lose you on the end what you now are saving if you sell here. Are there not a lot of small other complications by it? Maybe not really worth?

I would appreciate some practical answers, from people with some knowledge on the matter. Philosophical and rhetorical comments won t help too much, if at all.
