A little OT

In addition to my Seawind which I cruise on I just picked up a Prindle 18-2 for a bargain price I could not pass up.

Not really a cruising boat; well maybe a camp cruiser. I may do some local races in NW Florida. But I am looking to try and get up to speed on beach cats and wondering if anyone has advice on where to start.

For the next couple of days I will be rebuilding the trailer and changing the title; so no hurry on advice.

Well, Florida is surrounded by beaches.

What fond memories! I played with and raced a Prindle 18 in the late 1970's. Great times.

Here is a place to start: thebeachcats.com

Have fun!!

Hunt around until you see a bunch of cats on the beach, go introduce yourself. Most fun sailboats ever. We have continuously owned a Hobie since 1972! Currently have a 21 in the Bahamas. Check out the beach cat forum

Wondering about that. My biggest issue so far is how to find a place to store it mast up so I can have it in the water quickly and ready to sail. Would love to find a place in the Bahamas, or even Florida to do that. My Prindle was modified to have wings. I looked at a Hobie 21 SE and SC both and the wings seem to be a huge step up in comfort. Any suggestions for mast up storage.

Re: A little OT

When I had my Prindle I rigged a pulley system that had the mast diagonally on the garage ceiling.

Re: A little OT

Well four rollers on the trailer make things much easier to get on the trailer. Rebuild was a real success. Trailer is not street legal and I will be heading up to the Panhandle soon and try and get the boat in the water. So far I am happy with the how the boat has cleaned up. One thing I maybe was not clear about was that for the cost of some of the newer super duper beach cats I could buy a small tri with a lot more camping comfort. This was a real deal price wise and once I cleaned the hull it really looks good.
