Vickers Sailboats

Greetings! I'm new to this forum...but not to sailing. I am in between boats right now, (a cheaper position to be in but not near as much fun!), but the wife has given me "permission" to start looking for another cruising sailboat. Happened upon a Vickers (two actually) in Long Beach Harbor, CA the other day but can't find any info on the internet about them. They are around 35 feet; come as a center or aft cockpit cutter, and possibly as a motor sailor as well, and are/were built in South Africa. (I don't know if the company is still in business or not.) Met and spoke with one of the owners...really friendly fellow, great spirit and very experienced sailor...but didn't get to see his boat other than from a distance.
Does anyone have any info about these fine looking vessels?
The owner I spoke with was thrilled about the handling and sea worthiness of his Vickers.
I would appreciate any and all info about these boats.
Thanks for your time and knowledge!!

Re: Vickers Sailboats

Here is some more info I know about these boats. The company that built them was T & G Vickers LTD. out of South Africa. I guess there are very few of them in the USA. They are a very distinctive vessel in any marina because of their almost full length multiple rub rails on each side. The bulwarks are overly large...look to be over a foot at the bow. Extremely stout looking vessel.
I'll keep looking and researching and appreciate any and all information about these boats from forum members.
Thanks!!

Re: Vickers Sailboats

i bought the cold molded original plug off of frits kremnitzer when he went bust,
the cape vickers 347 pilot house version and fitted it out in sa in 85-88 then sailed it around the world and sold it in turkey in 99.

all the 347's cape vickers were moulded from my hull impression.

great boat "retingy" #1 is now in cyprus.

still have the plans etc

Re: Vickers Sailboats

I have been cruising for over 5 years now and have sailed more than halfway around the world on my Vickers45. These boats were originally made by "I & G Vickers" in South Africa - Fred Kremnitzer was the builder. I bought mine Hull, Deck & Bulkheads and then spent almost the next decade completing her. Dudley (Dix) was fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend him. The boat has proven to be incredibly tough & sails fantastically! If anyone would like more info feel free to contact me.
