starwind 27

Hello everyone. I just picked up a 1984 starwind (by wellcraft) 27. Survey came back clean, other than the diesel not starting (they tend not to start when the starter is missing )

A search failed to turn up much information on this little boat. Anyone here have firsthand experience with one ??

My first boat was a starwind 27 made by Wellcraft. It was built in 1984 and when I bought it in 1994 it was a great sailing 27 footer. I thought it was a nice boat and it was a very quick sailing boat. The biggest drawback I remember was the Yanmar 1gm was a little on the small side and it was tough to make hull speed in any weather conditions other than perfect. We sold the boat after two seasons as we outgrew it rather quickly, but we did have a ball beating all the other 27-30 foot boats at our yacht club. For a crew of two it is a good boat any more and it gets a little cramped especially down below. If I remember it had a little two burner alc. stove, 20 gal holding tank for the head a 15 gal water tank and 20 gal fuel. The hull and deck are balsa cored so be careful if you drill any holes for deck equipment or through hull fittings.
